The Celtics take on the Memphis Grizzlies tonight at the TD Garden in Boston, returning from a successful road trip in which they won two out of three games. The most recent being a 100-90 win over the Miami Heat on Monday.
The Memphis Grizzlies (45-18) have won three of their last four and are coming off a solid 101-91 win over the Bulls thanks to another big night from their talented big man. Marc Gasol made the most of open looks to lead the team with 23 points on 10 of 16 shooting, old friend Jeff Green added 19 points while Zach Randolph had 16 as the Grizzlies improved to 45-18 on the season.
The Grizzlies ran into a wary Bulls team, who was playing their fourth game in five nights while also without Derrick Rose, who is recovering from knee surgery. With the victory over Chicago, Memphis keeps a two-game cushion over third-place Houston who have been rolling of late.
Meanwhile, the Boston Celtics continue to push towards the playoffs. Once again, Isaiah Thomas was the sparkplug off the bench on Monday, scoring 25 points, while Brandon Bass added 14 points. The Celtics were solid defensively, holding the Heat to 42 percent shooting despite a big effort from Dwyane Wade (34 points). With the win, Boston improved to 26-36 on the season which keeps them two games out of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
The Grizzlies are favored by five points, yet haven’t covered in their last seven games against a team below .500. I like the Celtics to pull off a big upset tonight and continue their march towards the postseason.
Prediction: Celtics 101, Grizzlies 98
