Brad Stevens yesterday announced to the media that Celtics center Kelly Olynyk will not participate in Friday’s Rising Stars Challenge in Brooklyn.
Olynyk, who has had an excellent season averaging 11.1 points and 5.4 assists per game, will not participate in the game due to an ankle injury that he has been nursing.
Olynyk missed his 11th straight game in Boston’s final game before the break against the Hawks. He will participate in all pregame festivities.
Matthew Dellavedova of the Cavs will take Olynyk’s place in the game. It should be a fun game to watch as there are definitely some big names participating in the even such as Andrew Wiggins and Giannis Antetokounmpo. Here’s the description from the NBA website:
The league’s annual showcase of premier young talent will debut a format that pits 10 first- and second-year NBA players from the United States against 10 first- and second-year NBA players from around the world. The game, set for Friday, Feb. 13, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, will be televised live by TNT at 9 p.m. ET
