Celtics-Rockets Preview

Back to Boston. After a six game road trip in which the Celtics finished 3-3, the green head home for a tilt versus the Houston Rockets. The Celts hope to avenge a loss from earlier this season–Boston fell to the Rockets in Houston 104-90 on Nov 1st.

Houston (32-14) has been in adjustment mode of late, trying to compete without star Dwight Howard. who has been battling knee issues. Howard has missed the past three games, yet Houston has been able to win all three, including an impressive victory over Dallas on Wednesday. Howard is out again tonight against the Celts.

The reserves have been the key for Houston of late, especially Josh Smith who has averaged 14.3 points a game over the recent streak.

Of course we can’t mention Houston without mentioning James Harden, who burned the Celtics for 26 points in the last meeting. Harden is among the NBA’s elite-he leads the league in scoring with 27.6 points per game and is averaging 5.6 boards, 6.8 assists and 2.0 steals. He’s the primary reason the Rockets have continued to win despite center Dwight Howard’s recent absence.

Will be interesting to see if Bradley and Turner can stop Harden. The guy is an all around force. Think the Celtics reserves will be key tonight–One of the biggest reasons for the formidable road trip was the bench. The reserves–more specifically Tayshaun Prince, Tyler Zeller and Marcus Smart have been playing great basketball of late. Turner who has been battling thumb issues lately is probable.

While the Celtics fans will be fired up, expect this to be a tough game for Boston, even without Howard. Kevin McHale’s squad is just too deep and too talented. Oddsmakers have the Celtics as 6.5 point underdogs. Sorry guys, but tough to see the Celtics covering (or winning) this one. Prove me wrong Celts.

Prediction Rockets 110, Celtics 100
