The Next Lebron James?

Lebron James Should Play Hockey. As long as no one tells him there’s not a 4th period he’d probably do pretty well.  A lot has been said about Lebron’s poor performance in the finals. His inability to finish, not just missing shots in  the clutch, but dishing the ball when those moments come. The guy is afraid to lose.  The best thing about the finals this year is that it will finally put to bed the ridiculous debate about whether Lebron is MJ – because he’s not, most people have known that for a while, but now everyone does.

Lebron does remind me of another NBA player, one without as much global recognition as MJ, but well known to everyone who followed the Celtics this year, he reminds me of Jeff Green. A gifted athlete who can outrun and outjump most of his opponents. They both stand 6’8” and have nice jump shots and the ability to drive. Lebron is the superior player even though Green has a post game, but their most common similarity is the one that should give Celtics fans the most concern…inactivity off the ball and an inability to reach their potential on the court.

When the Celtics acquired Jeff Green everyone patiently waited for him to find his way in the offense. He was new, and coming into a tough situation where he was replacing one of Boston’s most beloved players, Kendrick Perkins.  But as the season continued Green never got into a rhythm. He had a few good games, and showed some promise early in the playoffs, but not before dropping some key passes in the Heat series and making an early exit with the rest of the team. He seemed most comfortable hanging out on the wing and waiting. Rarely cutting into the middle and only posting up when he was the only scorer on the floor. Maybe he was finding his place among the veterans on the team, ceding scoring duties to Pierce, Garnett and Allen, or maybe he suffers from the same fear of losing that James does. Unless he has to get the ball he doesn’t seem to want it.

Green has only been in the league for 4 seasons and was only a Celtic for a few months, so there’s hope for him to get more aggressive and find his place on the team as a scorer and possibly eventually a leader, but we’re all hoping he’s not the next Lebron James.

Not only did he leave his home state, the jerk announced it on natoinal tv and slapped the Cavs right across the face. He made it a one hour special entitled the decison. Then, he gives the money to charity as an excuse, yet will never give a dime out of his own pocket. Im not even a Cavs fan and i hate LeBron or being a stupid jerk. i hope he never wins

I see your point, and I can almost agree, but here is where the ball falls on this, Jeff Green plays off the bench.

LeBron is a superstar and expected to lead his team. Whether you think the team belongs to LeBron or Wade is regardless, both are expected to produce.

At best you can say Jeff Green is a bench player, maybe highest he could be expected is 6th in the 2011-12 season, but in reality much lower, more likely 8th or 9th depending what happens with our center & roster next season.

While him producing is expected it is really just a footnote compared to the team leaders taking charge first.

“We’re all hoping he’s not the next lebron james”..really? Last time I checked, lbj is arguably the best player in the world. We would be blessed for green to be the next lebron. I understand the basis of the comparison, but you’re taking it too far. Lebron has actually developed into a pretty good shooter. Green really isn’t in lebrons league in any aspect of the game
